The Elephant-headed God is traditionally welcomed into households on the first day, followed by Visarjan or immersion of the Ganesha idols on the tenth day. With each year's Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations come significant environmental risks. Thousands of individuals chose to immerse the idols in already polluted water bodies. People typically overlook the impact of pollution generated by numerous activities undertaken during the festivities when celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi. Almost all Ganesha Idols submerged in water are made of PoP (Plaster of Paris), plastic, and cement. The colours used for decoration contain toxic compounds that contribute to environmental pollution.
